About Doug Strickland
Doug has always been a storyteller, and photographs are his primary means for doing so. A passion for documenting the lives and trials of people as well as an unwavering empathy for the underdog originally drew him to photojournalism. He has a love of documentary work that exposes injustice and suffering, with the hope that from these photographs can come knowledge, understanding, and the will to prevent such issues from occurring again. His portfolio exhibits a knack for capturing what Henri Cartier-Bresson called the "decisive moment," a single image of a moment and scene which tells an entire story. In all assignments he seeks to find these photographs, and ultimately, tell the story of the subjects.
This sentiment extends to Doug's wedding and event photography, done in a photojournalistic fashion to provide candid and real photographs of the event that capture it's spirit and heart.
Doug is a contributing photographer to the international photo agency Corbis Images, and his photographs have been published in American Profile Magazine, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Week Magazine, the Advocate Messenger in Danville, KY, and elsewhere. Doug has received awards from the National Press Photographer's Association, the Kentucky News Photographer's Association, and was featured for his work as an intern on www.SportsShooter.com.
